Saffron poached pears with chocolate sauce

A stunning, yet simple recipe to wow guests at Christmas or any time you want to entertain

  • Serves: 4

What you need:

  • 1 x 125g pot Alpro soya chocolate dessert
  • 4 small pears
  • 5 slices of ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 piece of lemon rind
  • Pinch of saffron
  • 70g caster sugar
  • 300ml water
  • 8 small amaretti biscuits

What you do:

  1. In a large pan, place the lemon, ginger, saffron, cinnamon, sugar and water.
  2. Peel the pears and add to the pan, bring to the boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer and put the lid on. Poach for 30 mins.
  3. Serve the pears with a dash of the poaching juice and the chocolate soya dessert on the side. Finish with 2 amaretto biscuits for dipping.
